Smit's uien is moving.
Smit’s
Uien recently purchased a new building less than 60 meters from its existing
plant on the Forepark in The Hague. "We had
some time to build new plans to" tell Jan Smit and his sons Emiel and Remon.
"When we were in 1993 the building concerned, we worked here with 8
people and we had a whole onion line. At present we are working with 40 men and
we have 3 lines and every corner in use. Because we have each year grow properly
there was a need for a fourth line, there is here in the present building,
however no room for, well we also have space for machinery for a number of new
products.
Last year came by chance one for sale on the same street with a
production area of 2650 m2 and a further 800 m2 of office and restaurant space
and the choice was made quickly, partly due to the favorable location of the
Forepark right along the highway with a direct connection to the A12, A4 and A13
where we are. Meanwhile, all permits and construction starts within. The
expectation is that we are moving the end of this year. The new plant will be
built to the highest standards of BRC, IFS, GMP and SKAL. Additionally, the new
refrigerators and compressors and also completely new machine equipped with the
latest technologies in the field of sustainability.

first in 1998 to receive a HACCP certificate. Smit’s Onions have now the newest
HACCP issued rules.
